Someone asked so I'd comment about it. The LAPD Harbor Range was a good place for people to go and shoot. It was inexpensive, a reasonably nice facility and convenient for many local people. It's in the industrial area of Gaffey Blvd, next to the American Softball Association youth softball fields (the softball players are accustomed to the loud gunfire nearby).
The LAPD Harbor Range had been open to the general public for a long time, and civilians used to hang out there. However, in the middle of last year sometime, the range ceased being available for the general public. LAPD still use it, of course, but for some reason, it's no longer available for civilians. You can call their number for verification but they rarely ever picked up the phone even back in the day.
Too bad about them closing down for the general public. That reduces the number of ranges available in the general area. Gun business including ranges have been closing down in Southern California. For South Bay residents, here's what we have left: SoCal Sharpshooter indoor range in Torrance (Western Ave and Torrance Blvd), LAX Range on Manchester just off of the 405 Freeway --- and that's basically it. You can travel to Artesia for the Insight range, and you can go to downtown LA for The Los Angeles Gun Club. After that, nada; unless you don't mind driving even more of a distance.
